Orange Peel Smoothie
This creamy smoothie makes the most of the entire orange—peel and all. In addition to cutting down on food waste, studies suggest that orange peel is a powerhouse for gut health, packed with fiber to nourish beneficial gut bacteria. If you’re going to include orange peel in your recipes more often, consider using organic oranges and giving them a thorough cleaning before using. We recommend fresh ginger for the best flavor here, but you can substitute ¼ teaspoon ground ginger in its place if you prefer
Ingredients
-
2 cups whole-milk plain yogurt
-
2 medium mandarin or clementine oranges, scrubbed and stemmed, plus slices for garnish
-
2 medium frozen very ripe peeled bananas, sliced crosswise (about 1¼ cups)
-
1¼ cups frozen pineapple chunks
-
1½ teaspoons grated fresh ginger
Description
- Combine 2 cups yogurt, scrubbed oranges, sliced frozen banana, 1¼ cups frozen pineapple and 1½ teaspoons ginger in a high-speed blender; process until smooth, 1 to 2 minutes. (Alternatively, process all ingredients in a regular blender until smooth, 2 to 3 minutes, stopping to mash down the oranges and scrape down the sides as needed.)
- Divide the mixture between 2 (20-ounce) glasses. Garnish with orange slices.
